Running scannow sfc and I don't have an XP CD to insert

I was running scannow to correct a possible corrupted file in Windows XP Home
(XP kept losing my shared printer on my GATEWAY PC).

However, when XP prompts me to insert my XP CD, I don't have one--I only
have the GATEWAY "System recovery" DVD.

What do I do now? Cancel scannow??

Is there a way I can create an XP CD that I can use to allow scannow to
complete successfully??

Any help would be welcome...
Thanks.

Hi Tony

See if you have a windows\servicepackfiles\i386 folder on your hard disk.
If so, try pointing to that instead of the XP CD.

PS: I have an XP Home CD (SP2) from a home built computer that my son made
earlier this year. Would I be able to insert that CD in my computer to allow
it to run scannow ???

Or is the CD tied to a product key or something unique so I couldn't use his
XP CD on my GATEWAY?? His XP CD is an OEM.

Hi Tony

If you are running SP2 and the XP Home CD is of a previous version, then you
will get an error message to that effect.

Thanks for link Rick. I followed your instructions and made the reg changes
but it still prompts me for a CD??? Weird?

Should I contact Microsoft for a copy of XP install CD or GATEWAY??
