Jim, I use Startup Control Panel (to identify and remove processes), and StartupMonitor (to block processes), both free, from <http://www.mlin.net/>. To decide what should and shouldn't start, <http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php> is useful. Also, for information about services, <http://www.blackviper.com/Articles/OS/OSguides.htm>.
