Hi there,

I've reduced the number of programs starting on boot via the Startup
tab accessed with MSCONFIG. I made teh choices based on information
and advice at
http://www.pacs-portal.co.uk/startup_pages/startup_all.php

Now when I boot the System Configuration Utility comes up, tells me
it's running in diagnostic mode and tells me to reverse the changes
that I made.

Does anyone know whether this is likely to be a real problem, or could
it just be MS trying to control what I do/don't run when my PC boots,
for no good reason?

Thanks for any help.

It is just that MSConfig is intended as a test and trouble shooting
tool, so that comes up if you have used it, to remind you to make sure
you have put things back. If you are content with how things are
working, check the 'don't show again' box, and OK to exit

Ahaa! I didn't realise that. Thanks for explaining.

I've already returned MSConfig to normal and started using StartupCP,
as recommended by GSV Three Minds in a Can, and that seems to be
working fine.

Thanks again :)
