Runner Error

Invalid BackWeb application id "Connections"

I'm a new XP user. I don't know what action to take after receiving the
above error notice.
Just a short time before getting the error notice, I had used Spybot S. & D.
and put BackWebLite into quarantine. I got an earlier notice that Compaq
Connections.exe did not have the required connector. It suggested using
"-". I tried editing a "-" in between "Compaq" and "Connections.exe" but
no joy.
Is there a way bad stuff can be identified and a good substitute put in
its place? Or, anything anyone can suggest.
I've never dealt with anything like this before. Would really appreciate
any help I can get.

Backweb is used by Compaq as a mechanism for checking for updates that are specific to your model of computer. This may include updates for other software that was pre-installed, but would not be available from Windows Update.
 
Go back to SpyBot, take BackWeb Lite out of quarantine, and the error should go away
when you reboot. Then go to Control Panel> Add\Remove Programs, and uninstall the
Compaq Connections application, or whatever name it lists itself under. It may be
something like Compaq Updates, or similar.

Thanks to Doug and "glee" for the very informative replies to my cry
for help. Also to MVP Sharon F. for her stuff. Now that I understand re:
Back Web a lot better, I decided I don't need/want it anymore. I had a
little trouble getting Control Panel to uninstall it so I tried doing it
manually. Got most of it but not all of the Compaq stuff, I think. Anyway
I took if off of the Start Up section in MSCONFIG. Not getting the "error"
report anymore! Thanks, again.
