OK maybe I'm aking for too much with not enough, or too much incorrect info.
So I'll try it this way. Would somebody please tell me where to find out how
to define and correct a rundll message?

It depends on what the error message says.

What is the error message?

When you get an error message, click on it to give it focus, then hit Ctrl +
C to copy the error message. Paste that error message into what ever you're
using to post here and post back.

Hey Wesley thanks for answering. It's got a history and I got rid of it by
restoring my system to yesterday, but it started today after I tried to
uninstall/reinstall my Scanjet 5200 per HP instructions. There were 4 rundll
error messages. All stemming from c:\windows\system32\ and individually were
iel2cde8.dll, Readdb40.dll, li01f948.dll, and wm41a398.dll. I had problems
before when I tried to reinstall the 5200 from the Gateway to my current
Dell. But I at least had some limited usage through system tools. But one day
my system just couldn't find the scanner at all so I tried to reinstall it
today after I finally found the disk. Any ideas?

Papps,

None of what you mentioned has anything to do with your rundll errors.

You have scumware/spyware/adware/malware whatever you want to call it.

iel2cde8.dll, Readdb40.dll, li01f948.dll and wm41a398.dll all appear to be
part of LZIO.com adware downloader.

I am *NOT* suggesting that you purchase Spyware Doctor, the link above just
has manual removal instructions.

I do recommend all of these.

Download, install, run, update and run again. They are all
good, FREE utilities. Make sure you update every program, even if you
just downloaded it. You must have the latest updates. Without updates,
you have a gun without ammo. You also need to use more than one
anti-scumware program. One program will *not* catch everything.

1) SpywareBlaster

ever being installed.

Thanks so very much for getting back to me and being patient and
understanding. I called it a Rundll error because that's what it said on the
notice when it pooped up. It read "Rundll Error". I do have Spyware programs
but they were fine until I tried to reinstall my Scanjet 5200 software. Now
that I've unistalled it I don't get the error messages anymore although I
have caused a glitch in the top tool bar functions. The window goes blank
sometimes when I move the pointer from Edit to View. I think I'm just going
to quit while I'm ahead so I don't corrupt more stuff. Thanks again for all
your help and maybe I'll be back when I'm a litte better educated, Papps.

Papps,

rundll32.exe is the file and its name is Run a DLL as an App. Rundll32 runs
DLL files as applications. Allows dll files to run like they were an exe
file.

There are literally 100s of .dll files that come with Windows, let alone all
the others that are added by installing software. Or by getting spyware.

rundll32.exe is what runs, for example, shimgvw.dll the Windows Picture and
Fax Viewer.
The window goes blank sometimes when I move the pointer from Edit to
View.

See these...

Transparent drop-down Menu and disappearing menu text

Thanks again for all your help and maybe I'll be back when
I'm a litte better educated

What better place to get more educated then here in the newsgroups?
