The options I usually see are...Run and Save.

Run means the program is being installed
as it downloads.

Save means to save the file to your hard
drive and install it later.

Hi,

Run implies that the program is either already installed or doesn't need to
be installed.

Installing a program means it needs to write registry entries and load files
to the program and system folders. Once installed, then you can run it.

Running a program is using it for its intended purpose.

Installing a program is not running it. An INSTALL program is a program that
when it is running - installs another program. That is the purpose of an
install program.

A program that is being installed is doing nothing. Its bits and pieces are
being appropriately inserted into your system (usually your hard drive) so
that you will be able to run it.

Once the install program has done its job, it is no longer needed - unless
you need to re-install what it installs at some later time.

Some programs (mostly very simple programs) do not need to be installed with
an install program - if it is in the form of something.exe and requires
nothing else to make it complete. In this case, it can be downloaded
directly into your hard drive without running anything - and be ready for
use.

When the window comes up you are presented with two choices, Run or Save. If
you click save, it saves the file to your hard drive in a place of your
choosing. You can then install from there at a time of your choosing.
Clicking on Run downloads the file to a temporary location and then proceeds
to install from there. The file is not saved onto your hard drive.
I use the first method if it's a file I wish to keep around, maybe it was
difficult to get, or I paid for it etc. Something like a driver or update to
a programme (unless it specifically tells you to save it first) I will just
choose run.

Bear in mind though, only choose run if you are very sure of the integrity
of the file, it's from a reputable site. If in doubt, save to disc and run a
virus scan over it. A good virus programme should pick it up as it installs,
but I'm not about to test that "should" scenario.
