When using the Windows operating system, is there a way to start a program
running in a hidden or invisible mode so that no Windows run icon for it
appears?

When multiple applications are being run and it is necessary to move between
windows, that would mean one less window to keep track of.

I believe that would have to be a function of the individual program or
perhaps there is some third party software (I don't know of any) that might
do it. If nobody else gives you a lead, you could try using Google to
locate possible software.

I use Editpad and when it is not actively being used, the icon does not
appear on the taskbar but does appear in the tray area. Clicking the tray
icon opens Editpad and an icon then appears on the taskbar.

Thanks for the info. I actually have an old third party program that will
start another program without having it display a run icon. But I was
hoping that Windows itself would have some routine for doing that. It
doesn't look like a startup link file can be modified to get it to do that.

Go into the program files and see if there is an icon ; if there is ,
delete it .

Hi edgrsprj,
Here is a link to download Taskbar Button Manager that
does what you say you want. It lets you arrange taskbar buttons and you
can also hide them completely.

Thanks for the info. I will give it a try.
