Hi

I am at my wits end trying to work out how to set rules that work in Outlook
2003 and maybe I am missing some fundamental point. All I want to do is
permanently delete junk mail coming in, for example all those emails that
contain certain words in the subject line. Then move other emails to certain
directories as they arrive. Can anyone please answer this for me or direct
me to a site that explains it in easy terms.

Thanks

Creating a rule that permanently deletes a message containing a certain
string in the subject is quite simple. Click Tools>Rules and Alerts>New
Rule>Start from a blank rule>Next. Check the "with specific words in the
subject" box. Click "specific words" in the lower pane. Enter the string
you wish in the "Specify words..." box and click Add, then OK. Click Next.
Select the "permanently delete it" box. Click Yes to the warning about
permanently deleting messages. You'll notice that the "stop processing more
rules" box will automatically receive a check. Click Next, then Next again.
Give your rule a name and click Finish. You'll get a message about the rule
being client-only. Click OK.

As far as moving messages to other folders, the process is much the same.
You should usually include the "stop processing more rules" action on those
as well.
