Data: XP Pro, MSN8 for Internet access, IBM Thinkpad,
connection = dialup

Problem: After I logon to MSN8 and/or access Windows
Update, I get an error message.

Message is: Shutting down in 'x seconds. Shutdown
initiated by NT Authority\System.

Remote Procedure Call terminated unexpectedly.

................. I need to update my system with current
Service Pack and patches.

Any hel appreciate. Clyde Logue

Scroll down Clyde or do a search here, and if you're on the web one it
will suck, best to just change pages or on google. This is old and has
been asked bazillions of times and answered even more times.

In the meantime to give you time to do some legwork open a cmd prompt
and as administrtor type shutdown -a. That should stop the constant
rebooting long enough for you to see what you have to do.
