Hi there,

Need some help, I 've got brand new sony laptop with XP
home edition, just installed BT broadband, but cannot
stay connected for more than 5 minutes, every time I get
the msg, error due to NT Authority\System and windows is
shutting down, because of RPC request. Don't really know
the source of the problem.

Anybody there to help, your help will be much appreciated.

Cheers,
Jeeten

Hi Jeeten,

To stop the reboots: Go to Start/Run and type in: services.msc. Scroll down
to Remote Procedure Call (RPC)/Recovery/First Failure/Restart the Service.

Close Windows Explorer, run the edit on line 257 which includes the prompt
for the patch once your system has been cleaned.

This script removes all variants of the W32.Blaster.Worm (original, B, C, D,
E and F) and will inform you whether or not the patch is already installed.

Sounds like your computer has been infected with the
MSBlast worm.
Below is the link for a removal tool and a procedure for
enabling you to stay connected long enough to DL MS patch
and tools for worm removal.

Restoring Internet connectivity
In many cases, on both Windows 2000 and XP, changing the
settings for the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service may
allow you to connect to the Internet without the computer
shutting down. To restore Internet connectivity to your
PC, follow these steps:

Click Start > Run. The Run dialog box appears.
Type:

SERVICES.MSC /S

in the open line, and then click OK. The Services window
opens.

In the right pane, locate the Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
service.

-----------------------------------------------------------
---------------------
CAUTION: There is also a service named Remote Procedure
Call (RPC) Locator. Do not confuse the two.
-----------------------------------------------------------
---------------------

Right-click the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service, and
then click Properties.
Click the Recovery tab.
Using the drop-down lists, change First failure, Second
failure, and Subsequent failures to "Restart the Service."
Click Apply, and then OK.

Good Luck,
