Hello there:

I have an issue with a brand new pc that came with XP SP2 installed. I
installed all my apps such as Office 2000 SP1 and ran security updates. It
is a computer that runs a program called BitFax and Alticonsole (phone
monitoring system) and it repeatedly comes up with an RPC Locator error. I
haven't gotten the Event Viewer Id error number but cannot find any
information on this type of error. It pops up every 30 to 45 seconds.

Would anyone out there have an idea on this?????

Rebecca

Are you on a network? Do you even need the Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
Locator service to be running? If not make sure it's set to Manual.

Start | Run | Type: services.msc | OK |
Scroll down to and double click: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator |
Under Startup type set to Manual | Apply | OK | Close Services

This did not help. Now I can't open control panel with out a windows
explorer error. I have removed all non microsoft apps and it still won't
open. I got it working for about 2 reboots when I removed the ATI software
but the minute I added Symantec Client on there it started happening again.

HELP!!!!

Rebecca.

Well it sure sounds like Symantec Client is the culprit. I know nothing
about that program.

Open Event Viewer and see if there are any errors related to Symantec Client
or RPC Locator under Applications or System.

If there are any events that look promising....
Double click the event in Event Viewer | Click: the button below the second
arrow (looks like two pages) [[Copies the details of the event to the
Clipboard.]] | Paste into Notepad | Click:
