RPC is currently stopped; is this correct???

I have just checked RPC via msconfig / services, and it is stopped!

Is this correct?

I have previously installed the hotfix and have verified it in my registry
just now!
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP2\KB823980

Am I safe to reboot or shutdown ???

Are you sure you are looking at Remote Procedure Call (the relevant one)
- which should be started and the machine is liable to keel over in
minutes if it is not. There is also RPC *Locator*, which is on Manual
startup and is usually not started
