will windows xp automatically route between two LANs if it has a NIC for each
LAN? if so, how do i disable this functionality? thanks.

By default, XP doesn't automatically route between them. If you want
routing, you have to explicitly enable it. This Microsoft Knowledge

Hi
Routing with Dual NICs as to be specifically set. It can be done with, ICS
or if there is already a Router and DHCP on one end, by using WinXP Bridging
capacity. If one of these two is not set there would not be Routing across
the two LANs.

I tried to enable IP forwarding as specified, but it doesn't work.

I also tried creating a WinXP bridge, but didn't get it to work either. I
actually lost connection on both LANs. It seems like DHCP doesn't work any
longer:
