BlankHopefully someone can help me with a router problem. Everything else I
have asked for from you people you have answered to the point.
I am trying to hook up my sons computer to mine I have a DI-604 router I
have XP Pro and the other is Win98
I have mine configured so my address is ---.---.0.100
default gateway is 0.1 and subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 so router is 0.1
right?
I cannot get 98 to do anything I click on network and it tells me unable to
browse the network. The network is not accessible & to check trouble-shooter
and I did---no help. I did get in thru in control panel >network and changed
TCP/IP settings to the same as mine except 0.200 for the IP Address.
Nothing seems to get it on line. Could the dial up adaptor have anything to
do with it? I put a new NIC card in to be safe but still ?
Thanks to whoever can help with this or understand it even.

Hello Bruce
It is usually better to set it to Get IP Address Auto. & Get DNS Auto also.
If you are going to assign them yourself it should be something in the
effect as xxx.xxx.x.101 for the host and 102 for the other.
Go into the Local Area Connection Properties and install
1- Client For MS Networks
2- File & Print Sharing
3- IPX/SPX Net Bios (some will tell you that you will not need this protocol
but you can run a firewall and still ping your network if you do)
4- TCP/IP
Then go to the network wizard on the Host puter and run it when you get to
the point to create a floppy do so and run it on the 98 puter, be sure to
name your network the same and give each puter a different name.

To hook up Printer sharing just install the printer on the host computer go
to Printer and Faxes right click your printer, then go to Sharing, then set
it to Share then name it, click OK.

Go to the other computer open Printer & Faxes on the left of the page click
add a printer then follow the instructions.

Choose connect to this computer. (type) \\your host puter name\printer name
