why? are you going to install SP2 Again?!

Don't plan to reinstall ... SP seems OK, just don't want to do a power
recycle on router every time I switch on my PC

Should not be necessary if you have told the PC that the GATEWAY IP is
192.168.1.1 and the the PC should use DHCP and told the router that it
IS to provide DHCP. One time only: power off all; power on modem (cable
modem?) and wait 1 minute; power router and wait1min.; power on pc. - RM

Well done, seems to be working

Over-riding gateway IP addr seems to have done the trick.
I can only assume SP2 has interfered with DHCP bradcast in some way

Glad to hear it. Now, if we can only get you to bottom-post ;-)

I have a question on the install of xp SP2. I took my computer in to a shop
for a complete restore as I had downloaded that. They told me that XP SP2 is
not compatible with AOL. Is this true. My hardware was being eaten???
