I have a Linksys router, with two machines connected to it. My company's
computer consultant has helped me configuer the two "channels" in ways I
don't want to disturb. There are two unused outputs on the router. I'm
working on reformatting/reinstalling OS/other stuff on a friend's machine,
and various MS downloads could be happening while I'm doing other stuff, but
so far, I've been waiting for the end of the day so I can run her machine
directly to the separate DSL modem. Obviously, that shuts down my two work
machines.
I suppose I could just try plugging the friend's machine into one of the
unused router outputs, but I'll ask first: Should there be a way to
configure the router so one of its outputs appears to the computer as simply
a straight-through connection to the modem? I don't want to do ANYTHING to
her machine that is particular to the router, so when she gets it back,
it'll work with her DSL modem.
