Router freezes

I have (2) identical home built computers connected to a Netgear wired
router(wireless disabled). About every 9 or 10 hours the internet and LAN
connection disappears. I can recover it by rebooting the router, at which
point it will run for another (9or 10) hours and then quit. If I turn my
computer off( Home built #1), and run only my wife's computer (Home built
#2) the router never freezes. I've never been able to catch the bug
happening. Anybody got a logging method which can help me track down the
problem or anyother ideas on how to fix it. When it's working it works
great- very fast to bring up web pages.

Cary,

There was a discussion in another newsgroup a couple weeks ago that I
initiated dealing with dropped broadband connection when using a Belkin
router. For no apparent reason, a couple times a day, we would lose our
ability to surf the net. I would have to unplug the router/modem to be able
to surf. I think the LAN worked but I couldn't address the router.

This never happened when we connected our machines via ICS and it happened
infrequently when we first went with the router and it got progressively
worse to the point that it was a real nuisance. Although I suspected it
might be the router, I was willing to ignore the problem when it was only
happening once every 3-4 days.

I finally purchased a D-Link router about 2 weeks ago and we haven't had a
single dropped connection. I even went back to the Belkin router last week
one day to be sure it wasn't RR and the Belkin router dropped the connection
after 8 hours or so.

I don't know what the problem is but it seems like the Belkin router is
unable to navigate the RR lease change. RR is a dynamic service and the
Belkin router is set for dynamic service. Some vendors, unfortunately Belkin
isn't one, have firmware updates and if your vendor does it may help with
your problem.

If your interested, the discussion was at news.annexcafe.com (user2user
group) under D-Link router starting on Aug 12.
