Rough Networking Solution Cost Estimate

I'd be grateful for any comments, input or advice on a *rough* cost
estimate for setting up the following business - there will be about 20
employees doing insurance related claims tracking and data entry and
normal office stuff. Here's what I'm thinking ...

Server - $4,000 (one)
Workstations / Laptops - $2,000 each
Server Software - Microsoft Server Software and 20 licenses - $3,000
(?)
Backup software and hardware - $1,000
Printers - $1,500 (2 network printers)
Router, Switch, Hub ("all other hardware") - $2,500
Cable / Infrastructure Installation - ($ No idea)
Software / Workstation Network setup - ($ No idea)
Ongoing Vendor Support / Network Administration - ($ No idea, per
month??)

Like I said, I'd appreciate any input that would improve my rough
estimate. I realize this is a tremendously specific type of project,
but I've been asked to quickly mock up a rough one ...

Your costs are way too high for what you're doing. Of course, it depends
on where you live and who you have do the work but just for the
hardware, my rough estimate would be:

Server with 4GB RAM, 3 SATA hard drives (non-RAID), Small Business
Server 2003 RC2 (includes 5 CALs - additional CALs are around $142 ea.
so that would be another $2130), around $2500. Add $645 or so if you
need SQL Server 2005.

Workstations would be around $725-800 each. Backup software and
hardware, maybe $200. Of course, it depends on what you are wanting to
use but it sure sounds like you're set on overkill.

Network printers - depends on how heavy-duty. If very heavy-duty, it is
far more economical to lease them. If you're just talking about
throwing a few HP's or even Dell's on the network then maybe $600.

Networking equipment - maybe $500-600. If that.

Of course, this is completely rough and not really having the details
about what exactly you need to do, whether you are going to run an
Exchange Server, etc. And no, please don't tell me because I won't put
that much work into researching a job I can't bid. ;-)

Can't help you with labor costs because I don't know anything about your
area. You should get some estimates. And if the costs you quoted came
from a bidder, find a different company to do business with. They're
ripping you, dude.
