I am trying to set up RIS on our win 2K server for
windows XP. I have successfully done this for all of our
2000 workstations, but now want to do the same for all XP
workstations.

If I do a basic install of XP from the cd for RIS it
works fine, but as soon as I add service pack 1 or 1a to
the RISREP it fails, and gives the blue screen of death.
With an error of

"c000021a".

I have looked this up on technet, but it doesn't really
have that much information on the subject.

Is there anyone out there that has had this problem, and
has successfully managed to deploy full XP images to
their machines from a ris server.

The image file and imaged machine MUST have the same level of Service Packs
in order to work. This actually goes one step further and requires the the
ntoskrnl.dll be EXACTLY the same in both places (therefore updates have an
effect).

I have checked these files and they appear in the I386 of
the image folder in the Reminst directory.
I think it is something to do with the service pack.
As i can Ris machines with a standard XP image no updates
from the Win2K Server, but as soon as i add the service
pack, the PXE boot RIS bombs out after copying the files.
If i add the Service Pack to an XP machine RIS'd from the
server which contains no service pack and try to do a
RIPREP it says my image is not the right one.
I then add the same service pack to the servers image and
try to do a RIPREP and it still says the same.
I have installed the RIPREP update from MS as well, which
does not seem to change a thing.
W2K Server is running SP4.

Thanks
