RIS Answer File Question

All,

I understand where and how RIS handles answer files for installations. The
answer file is just a text file filled with value names and values, and some
values use OSC variables to create a temporary answer file for use with the
real unattended installation, allowing the same template file to be reused.

What I am trying to discern is where this temporary answer file gets placed
and if it is possible to have this left on the client that was installed.
Does anyone happen to know if this is possible? And if so, how might I
implement it?

I ask because I actually want to see the answer file that was used with any
given RIS-based installation for validation purposes. I would also like to
use this so I could pass other custom-defined OSC variables to the template
answer file and use the values entered through the CIW to provide
configuration data for post-installation scripts (GUIRunOnce).

If anyone can help me out here, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Cordially yours,
Jerry G. Young II

All,

I managed to answer my own question. *8^)

The file does get placed on the client. For Windows 2000 and Windows
XP/2003 the contents of an unattend.txt, or in this case, the temporary
answer file created from the .sif answer file in RIS, are stored in
%windir%\system32\$winnt$.inf.

Cordially yours,
