Not sure exactly when it started --- whether before or
after SP2 update. But, now if I right-click any file to
perform any function in the right-click menu the
associated program hangs. I've no idea where to look next.
Any direction would be appreciated.

I would run error cheching. Need help? Open help and
support and search for "error checking" Beyond that I
would run spyware scans, virus scans Need help with virus
scans, get some. Need help with spyware scans?
You can it it spybot free at

http://www.net-integration.net/index.php?
page=spybotsd#clean

They also have full ducumentation there and can help with
running and fixing problems. It has an automatic backup
so you can restore fixes.

You'll also need to remove startup registry items also ,
highjackthis is available free there at

http://www.net-integration.net/index.php?
and also has a backup and full documentation

I also would do a disk defragmentator.
