right click on start hangs forever

A new problem for me -- when I right click on the start
button or anywhere on the screen, I get the hourglass and
it hangs. I have to use ctrl+alt+del to reboot or
logout. Rebooting does not help, nor does restoring to a
previous point when the problem did not exist.
 
Chris -- this is close to my problem, but not quite it,
since it hangs for at least 10 minutes (longest I gave it
before giving up).

It has happened to me on a few systems too. Im not even sure if Microsoft
knows the true reasons that it does this. I can only provide the
information that Microsoft provides, sorry.
 
A shot in the dark, I had a similar but not exact problem:
If y'all have GoBack installed: go to start-run-msconfig-services
Uncheck: GoBack Polling-restart.
Don't need, it is the 'ad' which says" protected by GoBack"
