Hi,

When I right-click on a folder on a file on my desktop, there is a very very
long delay before the menu appears... system seems to freeze, than, after 1
minute, everything become normal. I can right-click again normally. It
happens very often... Any idea of what could be the problem ?

for info : I have Win XP pro SP1 updated. Office 2003 pro. Norton AV 2004.
ZoneAlarm Firewall.

I destactivated many right-click menu items (new documents), but it changes
nothing.

It is very annoying. It began to do this since I installed office 2003 and
updated Acrobat Reader 6. But it happens even if I do not launch these apps.
So I suppose there is no direct relation.

Thank you for any help/advice.

Luke

Hi Luke,

Thank you for your post!

Before we go any further, please let me know does this issue occur on
certain type of file or all type of files?

I suggest you use the following steps to isolate this issue:
Boot in Safe Mode, does this issue occur? If the issue does not occur,
please refer to the following KB to perform a Clean Boot:

Q310353 How to Perform a Clean Boot in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q310/3/53.asp

According to my experience, this issue could also occur if
anti-virus/firewall scan for the file or folder. Please temporarily remove
the anti-virus and firewall in Add/Remove Program to isolate this.

If the issue persists, please take a screen shot when you right click a
folder or a file and post here. In addition, please also save the system
information to (e-mail address removed) for research.

To save the system information file:
1) Click the Start-> Run->type"msinfo32"(without quotation marks)-> click
OK.
2) In the System Information window, click the File-> "Save..."

In addition, if this issue only occurs recently, you may consider using
System Restore to revert the system to a previous good state:

Any further questions, please feel free to let me know.

Have a nice day!
