Hello Rick. My shaded standby button problem could be connected to my computer detecting an "unknown" object on startup. There is nothing plugged in my Usb ports. What do you think.

The Standby button will become available once the correct video
card/adapter drivers are installed. It will appear when you click
Start > Turn Off Computer...

Visit the support website of the manufacturer of your video card or
video card adapter, search for the latest Windows XP compatible
drivers, download and install them.

If you have a notebook computer, visit the website of the manufacturer
of your notebook computer to obtain the video adapter drivers.

Then right-click on your Desktop and select:
Properties > Setting and adjust your Screen Resolution
settings, then select "Highest (32 bit) Color Quality setting,
and click "apply".

Hello Carey. This is not a new computer. It had a standby button in the past. The video is on board, there is no video card.
