I am having a problem with my return key. Similar to
another person seeking help. My return key does not let me
move to the next line. Ctrl + return takes me to the next
page, but not line by line. The return key works on most
web sites (selecting id names and passwords) but not
all. Thanks to anyone that can help.

There is a new virus making the rounds that affects the keyboard. Another
user posted this:

I posted separately about my keyboard also in MS Word
(2002). But this virus is one that Norton shows in its
list of me being protected against. Can you get it even
if you are protected by Norton?

AIUI, the definitions just went out yesterday. Have you checked to make sure
you weren't infected before you got the update?

I have done a virus scan, that came up clean. I don't have
a sysini.ini file and have tried another keyboard. I still
can't advance to the next line. Any help would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks

Assuming you are talking about Word... since this is a Word newsgroup...

The Enter key -- whether Enter, Shift-Enter, or Ctrl-Enter, does not move
you to anywhere, it inserts a text control into your document. Use your
arrow keys and PageUp, PageDown to move within a document. Use the Enter key
to start a new paragraph. Use Shift-Enter to break a line without ending a
paragraph, and use Ctrl-Enter sparingly, if at all, to force a page break.
(Changing the paragraph formatting of the following paragraph to "page break
before" is much cleaner.)

Now that I'm done with my rant, are you saying that within Word the Enter
key will not end a paragraph for you? Check to see if any of your shift keys
(shift, alt, ctrl, windows) are sticking. Which version of Word are you
using? Is this happening only in Word or in other applications like Notepad
and Wordpad as well?

The enter key does not end a paragraph in any form, not
even this message, not emails, NOTHING.
