Retrival of data from a bad floppy.

Probably not. Whatever you do, DO NOT try opening a Word document directly
from the floppy.

1. Try copying the floppy to your hard disk using Windows Explorer.

2. Check the floppy for hairs and dust.

3. Clean the floppy drive.

4. Try another computer (ideally, the computer on which the floppy was last
written).

5. Wait for the next full moon, daub yourself with goat's blood, stand under
a fig tree with a sprig of mistletoe in your left hand, and howl.

I want to rtetrieve some data from a disk that appears to be bad. Can I do
that?

And if you succeed in copying it to the HD and still can't open files in
Word, use the "Recover Text from Any File" setting in Word's File Open
dialog or try "Open and Repair."

Hi Suzanne S. Barnhill

If you can find someone with a copy of Star Office, you may recover a surprising
amount of intact data. Maybe somewhat surprisingly it generally does a very good
job of reading screwed up Word documents, even the ones that crash Word!!
