I recently acquired a new PC with Windows XP and Office
XP. My old PC was Windows 98 with Office 2000. In both
cases I use Outlook Express.

I want to move old emails files on to my new system so I
have installed my old hard drive as temporary 2nd drive
on the new system. While I can find the Import Wizard, I
have no idea where the messages are stored on the old
drive. Can you suggest folders to search for this? I
would also appreciate any tips to go along with using the
Import Wizard.

Thanking you in advance....

Dave,

I don't have Windows 98 in front of me but I would say search your system for all files that end in "pst" (i.e. "*.pst"). Use the built-in file search utility. Normally mailboxes are stored in .pst files. When you go to import into Outlook on XP you will want to tell it to "import from another program or file" then on the next screen pick "personal folder file (.pst)". Finally, browse to the file you found on your old hard disk that contains your Outlook Express email.

I don't use Outlook Express so I'm not 100% certain it uses .pst files but it may well. On XP your email files will get stored under "C:\Documents and Settings\<account name>\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook" where <account> name is your login name like "Administrator". Something similar to this existed on 98 although some of the directory names might have been different.

Hope that helps,

Bob

This newsgroup is for support of Outlook 97, 98, 2000 & 2002 from the Office
family for Windows PCs. For Outlook Express (OE) support try posting in one
of
these newsgroups:
microsoft.public.inetexplorer.ie4.outlookexpress for OE 4.x
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie5.outlookexpress for OE 5.x
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgr...blic.windows.inetexplorer.ie55.outlookexpress
for OE 5.5x
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgr...ublic.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress
for OE 6.x
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgr...;newsgroupsmicrosoft.public.internet.mail.mac
for the Macintosh version of OE
http://support.microsoft.com/newsgr...ess.mac&SLCID=US&sd=GN&id=fh;en-us;newsgroups

If those groups aren't carried on the news server that's carrying this group
try using msnews.microsoft.com (MS's public news server that's the source
for all the microsoft.public newsgroups). The links under the newsgroup
references are for use with MS's web newsreader (not exactly the best way to
post but it works for some people)

Also a good source of Outlook Express info can be found here:

Since the OP said "Outlook Express", this advice is bogus. OE uses .DBX
files, not .PST files.
