While I was typing some work up on microsoft works word processor the screen
turned blank and wouldn't let me get back to my work, so i switched the
computer of and started it up again. The prob lem is I didn't get a chance to
save the work. Is it possible to get back the work I was typing out?

Possibly - unlikely, but I've seen this work.

You want to try to find where your computer was writing the temporary file
normally used when you compose a document. These can be hard to identify by
filename because the filename is auto-generated and normally will not have a
known root name or extension. I have had success doing this. You will have
to open each temp suspect file manually in Works since the extension will be
wrong or non-existent. Look for a file of some size (not zero) and dated
the day you did the deed.

Look in:
c:\temp (if you have it)
c:\documents and settings\%userprofile%\local settings\temp

Also, look the the directory where it resided when you created it or started
re-editing it, if you did that.

Look for files of the same name which start with "!". This might be the
saved work.
