retrieving custom dictionaries from previous versions of Word

I upgrade to a diffferent version of word but yet did not back-up additions
made to my custom dictionary file. I need to know if I can retrieve that file
or is it completely lost?
 
If you upgraded in place, Word will have preserved all your customizations.
