The only way I know of, short of very expensive data recovery which would be
iffy, is if you did a backup prior to overwriting. Writing to the same name
is one of the more effective ways of deleting a file.

By data recovery, I'm talking FBI, CIA -level recovery, not Norton
Utilities. The metalic coating on your hard drive will have a residual
memory of what was there before your latest store. I believe "Tempest"-level
security overwrites nine times to wipe this out.

See the MVP FAQ: <URL: http://www.mvps.org/word/> which is awesome!

I created a draft of a letter than filed. Later, I drafted an email on the
same subject but considerably different, sent it, then got confused when
saving it and did so under the name of the letter; I overwrote it.

Since the original letter was saved just prior to having been overwritten,
is there a way to get it back? I had research references and lost 'em all.

Another disadvantage of using Word as your email editor!
