Check the deleted items folder. If they have been
competely removed. You will have to restore your .pst
from tape backup. If you recieved and deleted from today I
believe it is gone because most tape backups are done once
a day at night. Can you ask the person to resend the
email?

Is there a means to retrieve emails that have been deleted
from your in-box?

If you are using Outlook with a .pst file and connecting to POP3 servers,
those servers don't have the message after you download them and what you do
with them locally once they have been download you are responsible for.
When you soft delete an item, it goes into the Deleted Items folder. If you
delete it from the Deleted Items folder, you have then specified twice to
delete the item. How many chances and prompts do you want to protect you
from yourself? If you hard deleted the item (by using Shift+Del) then it
does not go into the Deleted Items folder so you have no chance to retrieve
it.

Note that items that get deleted are only marked as deleted. They
physically still exist in the .pst file but with a status of deleted so the
application (Outlook) will not show them. When you compact your .pst file
is when those delete-marked items will get physically purged from the file.
You may be able to do a Google search or find something at www.slipstick.com
that will recover delete-marked items from a .pst file that hasn't been
compacted (i.e., purged) yet.

You don't mention your mail setup. If you are connecting to an Exchange
server, and if the Exchange admin configured it so the recover option was
enabled, and if you are trying to retrieve a deleted item before the
expiration configured for the recover option, then you might be able to
recover a deleted item.
