I want to restrict a sub web which I have created on my
web site and have followed instructions found in
support.microsoft.com "How to set up a restricted-Access
web using FP 2002". When I try and view the restricted
site online, I am not prompted to add my username and
password which I set up so am unable to access. Can
anyone help?

If you are still logged into FP you are already authenticated in IE
Close the site in IE, and close IE, then reopen IE and you should get an authentication request

No I am not logged in, so must be doing something else

Provide a URL for us to see if we get challenged

Note
Passwords used by FP are "stored" using IE
In IE use Tools > Internet Options > Security
Click on 'Trusted' and on 'Custom Level'
Make sure the selection at the bottom is set to:
'Automatic logon with current username and password' and click OK
Click on 'Sites' and add your site URL in the 'Add this Web Site to the Zone', and OK, OK
- note: you may have to unselect the option: Require server verification (https)... to add your site

If you have this set to save passwords you may not see the loggin prompt and may be automatically logged in

trying to restrict is linked to 'administrator' at the
bottom of the page. Thanks for your help

Is http://www.marketzone.co.za/New_Folder/ a subweb or just a folder
If it is a subweb it is not restricted (password protected)

According to
http://www.marketzone.co.za/New_Folder/_vti_inf.html it is just a Folder, not a subweb

Reopen http://www.marketzone.co.za/New_Folder/ in FP
If you can't open it, that it means it is just a folder
Open http://www.marketzone.co.za/ in FP and right click the folder New_Folder to select Convert to web
Then double click the new web folder and Use Tools Server Permissions

PS
- make sure your host supports subwebs and unique permissions - many don't

The new folder is a subweb. However I am beginning to
think that the problem lies with my host which is Linux
based. It took them quite a while to enable the FP
server extensions to allow the form/submit button to
work. I have been battling with this problem all day and
feel I have tried every which way - will check with them
in the morning. Thanx. - Gill

Gillian I ran in to the same problem, when I created the webpage www.mcnbna.org I wanted to have a Members Only page which would link to a password protected sub web but I can't get it to work. I read the other links and I have tried everything I can think of but it just doesn't seem to be connecting all the pieces together.

if you find a solution I would love to know what it is.

Thanks
Steph

Its only a valid subweb if you can open it in FP using File Open Web (w/o opening your root web), or open it as a web (separate
instance of FP) by double clicking on the web folder (w/ a globe in it)
