Restrict other users from changing a document

I was wondering if anybody knows of a way to allow other users to see a Word
document, but restrict them from altering it. I could make it read only, BUT
I want to be able to update it myself. Can this be done, and if so how?

Even better, is it possible to allow other users to make changes, BUT
require those changes to be accepted by me before they are used? I know you
can use the track changes feature, but it seems anybody can accept or reject
these changes. Is there any way I can make it so only I would be able to
ultimately decide whether or not a change is made?

Hi Paul-

When you save a Read-Only file you can set a password to modify. Anyone
opening the file can open it as read only, but those who know the password
can enter it and open the file to edit & save the changes. Just keep in mind
that even those who open in read only mode will still be able to edit the
doc, just not able to save the changes in the original. They can, however,
Save As another filename and/or location to create a copy of the original
containing the changes they made.

This could work to your advantage because they could supply you with the
revised copy which you could then use Word's Compare documents feature and
accept/reject the differences as you see fit.

Other options may also be available, so make sure to check back for
additional replies.
