Is there a way, with Windows, to restrict certain user's internet access?
I don't mind if they use Internet Explorer to access our intranet, but I
want to restrict them getting out to the internet.
Thanks for any help!

if your using active directory just take them out of the
back office internet users group.

If this presents a problem with viewing your intranet you
could try adding the intranet to the host file

I'm sorry, but can you explain in more detail?...I'm pretty new to this and
am not sure what you mean by the "back office internet users group" and the
"host file".
Thank you for your time!

Hi in active directory double click on the user who you
want to deny internet access to this opens up the
properties page and you should see a tab which
says "member of" highlight backofficeinternetusers and
click remove this will deny internet access to that person

As for the host file you can search for the file using the
search function its in c:\winnt something or other. its
comes with some useful instructions

(hey lighten up everybody should have access to the
internet these days)

We don't have it set up this way, so I guess this won't work for me, thanks
anyway...
I couldn't do my job without internet access myself...but some people don't
do their job because of internet access :)

Hey Jenna...

I know what you mean.. I purchased some software called Browse Control
to control my employees access to the internet -- cheaky buggers were
on it all day and would just minimise it when I went to see them! It
is very easy to use and cheap so my bank account wasn't hurting after
the purchase. I recommend it as it'll do what you want - Intranet
access whilst denying Internet access.... and no dealing with policies
and active dir.

http://www.browsecontrol.com

i'd say its worth checking out

Thanks very much, we do have ISA Server, but I wasn't sure how to do this
with it...but I figured it out and it does work! I will have to remember
Browse Control, though, in case this ever comes up and we no longer have
ISA.
Thanks!
