We had a major email failure last week, and it may take
days to recover everything in Outlook before 12/5. I had
synchronized a lot of the folders I need beforehand, but
now I cannot access my outlook.ost offline folders.

Any ideas?

If your company found it necessary to blow away Exchange store and create
new mailboxes, your .ost backup is now useless as it relies on the same
mailbox under which it was created. You will need to synch to the new
Exchange mailbox and create a new .ost.

Did your network admins not have a full backup of the Exchange server? And
was the data you need sync'd to the server already, or had you been working
offline and not syncing?

As Milly wrote, once the OST file has been "pointed" at a new
server/mailbox, it's considered 'orphaned' and can't be opened in Outlook -
see www.exchangerecovery.com for a tool to open it and convert it to PST. It
isn't cheap, however.

It may work with earlier Outlook .ost files, but it will have problems with
the new one.

| Check ost2pst.exe (free), it can restore orphaned ost
| files (look for it in google)
