I had a hard drive crash on me and managed to save the
outlook database to a cd rom. I have since replaced the
damaged hard drive and reinstalled Outlook via MS Office
XP standard.

I can not get the database to be recognized. I get the
error message:

Unable to open your default e-mail folders. File
access is denied. You do not have the permission required
to access the file c:\windows\application
data\microsoft\outlook\outlook.pst

I'm thinking I had this problem before and it was based on
the name I created the file originally. If this is
correct, how can I find out what name I used originally?
I really need this database.

Any suggestions wld be great as I can't find the help I
needed anywhere.

After transferring your PST to your hard drive, you need to remove the
"Read-Only" attribute it has from having been on CD.
