I am working on a computer that someone installed Mozilla Firefox on. After
things didn't work correctly such as clicking on hyperlinks listed in
Outlook emails and getting a locate browser error, the novice tweaking began
and now things are really screwed up. I am looking for a fast and easy way
to restore all of the different Internet Shortcut and URL:xxx file
associations. All references found on Microsoft's KB refers to deleting the
existing file associations and then re-creating them. That's sounds great
but Delete or Remove is not an option when I have selected one of these file
associations. It appears that all I can do is edit the existing ones.

Does anyone know an easy way to restore these to the original defaults?
Thanks!

You can try the registry fix listed on this web site for htm/html
files:

thanks but that did not work. I think that only cured one single file type
association. Just web page shortcuts. I am dealing with several, most of
which look likeURL:MailTo Protocol or URL:News Protocol.

Sorry for not pointing this out earlier. Same web site, down near
the bottom, URL file association fix:

If this problem is a recent one you might want to condsider using
System Restore.

Thanks, but that is the exact one I tried. Also, restore
points were
cleared during virus removal earlier in this repair.

"Novice tweaking", messed up file associations, virus removal.
I'm glad your the one working on that machine.

I'm out of ideas. Right now I'd be reaching for the XP CD and
doing a repair installation. At the very least, I'd try to
uninstall/reinstall Outlook Express and see if that cleared up
some of the email link issues.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
