restoring backed up data

I have backed up my documents and settings on to an external hard drive
..Having just reinstalled Windows XP I am now trying to restore the data to my
computer's hard drive ( C ) . It is trying to restore to a DVD drive ( F)
..How can I change this setting please ?

Did you use a restore program? If so, which one?

You are trying to restore system files, which is a no no.
Just restore your data files. You have already lost some
of the data. I have a backup folder in three places in case
I have to reinstall.
BackUps
AddressBook
Desktop
Favorites
Inventory
Money04
Money06
OEAccounts
OEFolders

Your system files are broken.
You should be able to run SFC /scannow and then
dig the pertinent data from the back up. Might have
to run a repair install.
