Restoring a deleted User and files

I have managed to delete both a user id and the
associated files in error. I cannot find the files in the
recycle bin. I have tried a system restore to yesterday
which said it was successful, but the account has not
been restored. Is there anything I can do to restore my
files !
Any help gratefully received

I am not sure if there is something you can do, but System Restore was NOT
the answer. System Restore does pretty much what is says, restores system
files. It will not restore your personal files or documents.

How did you delete them?
If you did it through User Accounts in Control Panel, it asked if you
wanted to save the data and where to save.

Otherwise the data is gone, but you may be able to recover all or
some.

I was really stupid - I was getting fed up with
everything defaulting to "owner" when I tried to save a
file when I had an account as "Mel" - and I was logged on
as mel - so as a workaround I just renamed the accounts
and then had an account called "Mel2" - it was Mel2 that
I deleted, but the files disappeared.
After I had done the system restore, i thought the files
were back, but the directories are there = but they are
empty.
I do have back ups, but they are a bit out of date - so I
haven't lost absolutely everything, but some damn good
photos taken in the past couple of months are now gone.
I feel pretty stupid, I'm supposed to be an expert user!

Far too late to recover deleted files from the disk. You have to buy
that software ahead of time and recover the files within minutes of
deleting them. The simple act of installing Undelete (a very fine
product which I bought and use) will be sufficient to render his missing
files gone forever. Even if you use the floppy version, the files will
be gone within minutes of using your system.
