Can anyone help please.trying to reinstall windows xp from os cd which came
with computer.i followed directions from acer site and only get as far as
screen with the monkey & wrench?? have left the computer running on this
screen for 20 minutes still nothing, also keyboard & mouse do not work with
this screen. am i missing something here. very grateful for any help
thank you

With xp retail,to get to the installation set-up,one 1st needs to set the BIOS
to boot to the cd,(boot priority or similiar),if thats in place, with hp one
would
press F1/Help This gets you cd menu.

thanks for prompt reply andrew, but i have set the bios to boot cd and cd
starts to boot but when it gets to the screen where i should be able to click
on icon to go further to install or repair screen stops at this point and
loses mouse & keyboard. all i can do at this point is ctrl, alt, delete and
then we start all over again. have phoned acer twice and they insist nothing
wrong with their cd's.all acer could suggest is i pay 150 aussie dollard to
have their repair shop do it for me.

One may have to wipe the drive first and bring it to factory fresh
state.

how do i "wipe" the drive? i'm trying to return my system to its original
factory settings. then re installing windows. any help?

When you go to reinstall Windows, it will give you the option to format
and partition your hard drive, otherwise known as "wiping the drive".

Why not call Acer tech support? A screen with a "monkey & wrench" indicates
a proprietary recovery process best handled by the computer's tech support.
