While testing a Beta program a resulting crash corrupted XP. I have repaired
XP but the resulting copy is very unstable and full of error. Is there a way
I can restore XP from a tape copy using backup?

You looked at using your system restore points yet? Usually a restore will
fix corruption. Tape can backup files deleted.

Sure - you got a backup - if so, boot to the software used by your tape
backup and restore or what I would do is format the drive, do minimum
install, including my backup software, then do a complete restore.

Beemer: Good thought, except that repairing XP removes all restore points
prior the repair. "Tape can backup files deleted" Sorry I don't understand
that.

What is being said, Gordo T., is that since you chose to participate in a
beta program, you surely must have backed up your entire system regularly so
that - in case the beta blew up - you would have a fallback. Restore from
your latest working backup so you have a good point at which to start.

I will say that, "Tape can backup files deleted" makes little sense - I
think they meant that you can restore files from you latest tape backup -
although most home users do disk-to-disk backups instead.

Shenan, Yes my system is backed up on a tape streamer, except that after
doing a system state restore I find that XP backup will not replace files in
the Windows folder if they already exist. Hence the registry does not agree
with the existing OS files and the system is again corrupted.

So I will need to re-examine how I go about backing up and restoring in the
future.

Thanks
