Restore the restore!!

Is it my imagination or has there been quite alot of posts recently about
System Restore failing? This seems to be true since the last round of XP
updates. Could there be some connection?

There have always been some System Restore issues.
Like every component of every OS or program, there can be problems.

I have not noticed an increase in the frequency of SR posts.
But such an observation has its flaws since few if anyone reads all posts on
all the relevant newsgroups.

Hello Mark,

This _could_ be a coincidence, but after I downloaded and installed the
latest Windows updates last week, ALL my restore points before that time
have been eliminated. I've had my Dell going on 4 years, and never before
have I lost any restore points.

I wonder.....

There long has been. Unfortunately, System Restore, although it can be a
useful tool, is not as reliable as it should be.

There hasn't been any increase in the frequency of such messages, as far I
can see, and I doubt if there's any connection.

Also bear in mind that the frequency of problems you see reported here is
always going to be way out of proportion to the frequency of their occurence
in the real world. After all, nobody send a message to the group to state
that System Restore worked. As someone once said, "hang around a
transmission shop and you will think that all cars have transmission
problems."

I haven't had any problems this week.
