Hello
I have a system that will now not boot after cleaning out
some files in the registry. It boots to the login screen
but when you click on a user mesage comes up saying that
it is logging out the user. Ive tried every boot mode
posible with the same results. Now i have a legal XP Home
serial and disk but ive lost the #. Can you restore the
registry in XP through a comand prop like 98 or do you
need to reinstall. How can i recover my serial number
through a comand prompt? Please any ideas are welcome.

Can you get into the command console?

Not sure I understand. How did you obtain XP Home? Retail versions would have the
product key in the box. OEM versions would have a sticker on the side of the PC
similar to this:

If you can not boot into Windows, I'm not sure you will be able to obtain a product
key.

But, try this:

Good luck!
