restore point

I have downloaded a program that is carrying a 5 minute
POP UP to a search page that I cannot figure out from
where it came. Is my best bet to kill all cookies- (which
will entail pulling out the book) and if that does not
work---go to a restore point I made before this happened?

My ?? is: Does my restore point delete any non-program
data stored?

Please help

Why not run AdAware? It's free, and it will most likely
eliminate this pesky program. In future I suggest you refrain
from downloading such rubbish. Treat them like the sandwich
lying in the gutter - would you really eat it?
