My naivete has gotten the best of me this time. Not really sure how I did
it, but as the creator of a database, I lost ownership somehow, and can no
longer adminster or make any security settings changes. How do I get back
ownership? I already tried to create a new db and import the objects from
the original, it won't let me do that either. Help!

Try to delete the security file. To find the file, go to tools, security and
Workgroup Administrator to find where the file is. Then delete the file.
Access should create a new one. You may loose all your security settings
once you have done this, unless you have an old backup.

This is not a good idea since the OP may delete their custom security file
if they have set up user-level security.

By security file, are you referring to the system.mdw file(s)? I did set up
user level security using the wizard. Should I go ahead and delete the
security file? Redoing the security would not be a problem.

What version of Access are you using? If you are using 2002 or 2003, the
wizard would have made a backup of your unsecured mdb. Look in the same
folder for a file with an extension of bak. As long as you only ran the
wizard *once*, this is a backup of the unsecured mdb.

You can rename that file to have a mdb extension. Open Access and go to
Tools, security, workgroup administrator and verify that you are currently
joined to the standard system.mdw workgroup file that ships with Access. If
you are, then open the renamed mdb - you should get no login prompt. If you
aren't, then click on Join and rejoin system.mdw.

*Only* if all of that works for you, can you then delete your 'secure' mdb
and the secure mdw the wizard created.

It is not a good idea to delete anything until you are sure you can get into
an unsecured copy of your mdb while joined to/using the standard system.mdw.

In addition to Joan's advice, you can olny "redo" your security if you use
the exact same PID info you used first time.
