I had change the default categories to personal ones I really needed. I had
problems with my server, after correcting the problem, now I noticed all my
personal categories are gone. How can I restore them. I don't see how that is
done in the "Help" menu..thank you

For OL03 the categories are stored in the registry. If you haven't set up a
new computer, they should still be available here:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Categories

Thanks for the quick response, but still have not been able to restore any of
my personal categories. I am using the same computer. Unless (registry) you
mean I would have to input all my categories from scratch again? And will I
lose any that was already assigned? Thank you, again

Yeah, if you don't see the categories in the registry as mentioned, the list
is gone. But you still have all of the categories that are assigned to any
of your items.

A very useful tool is this situatioin is Category Manager (see the link in
my signature, please): You might launch it, click File/Select Folder and
select the topfolder, also check "Search subfolders".

It then reads all of the categories that are still in your Outlook items
stored. If that's done, select every category in the upper list (press
strg+a), then choose "Add to Master Category List". Click Save. That's it.
