Recently there were some folder/files deleted by mistake so I did a restore to a previos time that I know these folder/files were in tact. When I tell it to restore a little red box comes up and it works for a few seconds and then reboots. Everything works ok but the folder/files that were deleted are not there...The restore that takes place is as though it is just redoing what is current on the system. Any info on how to get this to restore to the older date would be greatly appreciated...Thanks in advance....Val

If you are talking about a "System Restore" (ie: System Restore is a
component of Windows XP that you can use to restore your computer to a
previous state, if a problem occurs, without losing your personal data files
(such as Microsoft Word documents, browsing history, drawings, favorites, or
e-mail). System Restore monitors changes to the system and some application
files, and it automatically creates easily identified restore points. These
restore points allow you to revert the system to a previous time. They are
created daily and at the time of significant system events (such as when an
application or driver is installed). You can also create and name your own
restore points at any time.), then you should know that this does NOT backup
your files. It only deals with system files - those vital to the operation
of your PC - not YOUR stuff..

So you may be expecting to get a result you are just not going to get.

Yes this is "System Restore" for Windows XP 2002 Professional. The files that were deleted were "Microsoft Word" documents. Should the saved point that I created have saved these .docs then?

Hopefully...Val

System Restore is not intended for and will not restore personal
files.
That is why you should have back-ups of important data.
See this link for more about system Restore:

See this link for possible options to recovering data:

Again, no - a System Restore does NOT backup your files.. Only system files.
Files that are necessary for the system to run - anything you create is NOT
backed up.
