I have XP Pro machine. I had 512 MB RAM but I wanted to add another 1024 MB.
After putting the chips in the slot machine did not start properly. It starts
at a point then reboot it again. I removed the new chips and left the old one
but still the problem persist. What might be?

Any help to solve problem will be welcomed.

Why? More than 512MB is overkill for the great majority of people running
Windows XP. Despite what many people tell you, more is not necessarily
better, and the amount to have is *not* a one-size-fits-all situation. You
get good performance if the amount of RAM you have keeps you from using the
page file, and that depends on what apps you run. Most people running a
typical range of business applications find that somewhere around 256-384MB
works well, others need 512MB. Almost anyone will see poor performance with
less than 256MB. Some people, particularly those doing things like editing
large photographic images, can see a performance boost by adding even more
than 512MB--sometimes much more.

Unless you do things like large photo or video editing, 1.5MB is probably
much more than you can make effective use of. It doesn't hurt to mave more
than you need, but it's a waste of money.

After putting the chips in the slot machine did not start
properly.

Did the new chips match the old ones exactly, with regard to type, speed,
brand? Windows XP is very fussy about this. Are you sure the chips were
seated properly?

Clearly, the situation is not the same as before you started. There are only
a few possibilities:

1. You zapped the motherboard with a static discharge while working within
it.

2. You dislodged the original chip and it's not seated properly anymore.

3. You dislodged something else while working inside the box.

Did you remove all power from the box? Did you wear a ground strap?
Will your main board support the RAM? Did the BIOS detect the new
RAM?

After putting the chips in the slot machine did you pull the handle or hit
the spin button?
mi

ps: in case you hit, hold a large plastic cup under the floppy drive slot.
Good luck.
