Any ideas
When I ask for restart on my computer it goes through all the steps
including shutting down the monitor. It, then just sits there. I have to
power down and up. When it comes back up, there is no indication that there
was an unusual stop.

Shut down works fine.

Running Xp Pro with all updates

Thanks

Not a solution, but a maybe a work around.

Start | Run <type in> shutdown.exe -r -t 0 <enter>
(will (should) restart you)

If that works create a short cut and place it in your quick launch bar
- it's what I do and it's much quicker.

Start | Run <type in> CMD /K shutdown /? <enter>
for other switches

How old is the system ... motherboard ... bios?
Does ACPI show up in Device Manager.

P.S.
I have contacted HP.
Answer: I upgraded to Xp Pro from Xp Home and they can't help me because it
isn't "as shipped". I then hated to tell them that I jumped from 512MB RAM
to 1Gb RAM.
