As an admin I set my resolution to be 800X600. However when I log back in, the resolution automatically changes to 1024X768. Is there something I am missing, why would it automatically change itself

Unfortunately Windows XP does not allow different resolution settings for
each user. If another user changes the resolution setting in their profile
after the last time you used the system, your resolution will be changed as
well.

Actually, if you use this free utility from MVP Doug, you can easily set the
resolution for each user.

MVP Doug Knox has a solution on his web site:

The thing is that there is only one user logging into the workstation, and we have saved her resolution to 800X600.

If she logs out and back in right after setting her resolution, it immediately changes to something different
